After watching Foundations of UX: Content Strategy, I have a better understanding of how to create and implement a content strategy.By utilizing the concepts learned in this video, I will be able to create impactful content for a fictitious company, and measure the successes and failures of the content strategy.

The first point of interest was “A holistic approach to content strategy.” I learned in this training is the idea that content strategy is a “rolling ball” and all elements depend on each other. The second point of interest in this video is Empathy Maps. This is a new idea to me. I learned that Empathy Maps can be used to get to know the target audience in a more in-depth way. The third concept that I found interesting is “governance and ownership of the content matters.” I learned that understanding who created the content plays a role in whether or not the content is reliable and trustworthy. I also learned that content may be created, edited, approved and published by different individuals, rather than one content strategist having control over all aspects.

I would like to continue to learn more about targeting. Although I’m familiar with choosing a target audience and a target market, at times I struggle to create content that attracts the specified demographic. In this course, I hope to have a better understanding at creating impactful content that encourages the desired call-to-action.

After watching this training, I can apply the insight gained to create engaging and impactful content. By creating an Empathy Map, I’ll have a deeper understanding of who my audience is and will be able to target individuals more effectively. Understanding the voice and tone of the fictitious company will allow me to create appropriate content for their Personal Brand and ensure that the voice and tone is consistent across all platforms. Lastly, understanding how to measure and monitor the success of my content strategy, will allow me to make the right adjustments and take the necessary steps to continually improving content, ensuring that the goals and objectives are being met.

The student that I’m reviewing for my RISE Peer Feedback is Valerie Marsh. Her 2.2 Assembly Cut Video Portrait (linked above) features an oil painter by the name of Jessica. In her project, I was immediately able to identify basic video capture techniques such leading lines, pan and a medium shot. I also liked that the student chose to use natural lighting for this project.

I’m wondering if the student has considered adding soft background music to her video. I feel that this would compliment the Video Portrait as well as give her a chance to further explore audio effects we learned last week.

Although I found this to be a great short interview, I would suggest removing the portion of the video where the artist is discussing the Instagram post, as the final video has to be exactly 55 seconds.

Rather than discussing music and multiple forms of art, it may better serve the purpose of the project if the artist being interviewed gave a short description of herself and her career. As a creative of many forms, her message resonated with me. However, I also tend to get lost in the details. Rather than feeling like I had learned who the artist was in the Video Portrait, I felt as if I had stumbled upon an intellectual conversation of the discovery of self, and learned very little of the background of the speaker.

Overall, I enjoyed this video. She did an excellent job of incorporating many of the shot techniques and transitions in her video and the lighting was great.

By utilizing my Symbaloo Webmix and curating various resources, I was able to create professional content by organizing my media tools in one easy-to-access site. This tool allowed me to maintain better time management. Rather than saving page after page as bookmarks, I saved tiles to my Symbaloo. My blog, YouTube channel, content creation sites, stock images and resources provided in this course, were all stored to one page. I believe organization plays a major role in professionalism. The resources stored in my Webmix are worth keeping because not only did I refer back to articles and videos each time I was working on an assignment, but I will continue to use many of these resources for future assignments. Previously to this course, I stored all of my resources in various folders in my bookmarks. After curating an overwhelming amount of resources, I found myself wishing for a simpler and more organized approach. This resource enriched my experience by providing me with the solution I was looking for. The authors of “Curation Before Creation” and “Not All Digital Assets Are Equal” believe that curating is a better approach, simply because “quality over quantity.” As a photographer, I am very familiar with the process of taking over one hundred photos, only to use two or three. To this day, I still have somewhat of a bad habit of doing this. My iPhone currently has 16,000 pictures and videos. With my MacBook only being a 500GB hard drive, transferring my photos to my computer to free up space on my phone isn’t an option because with the added content stored on my computer for class projects and assignments, my storage is over half full and my computer is less than two months old. This causes me to need an external hard drive. This takes up more time. The old concept of “quality over quantity” always remain true. In the article “Not All Digital Assets Are Equal” the statement “The argument can be made that we don’t know what might be valuable later in time and ours is not to judge, but to preserve,” is a terribly bad habit that I used to live by. At the end of the day, it is clutter! I end up holding onto things for years that I never use, “just in case.”
